Candle care + safety made simple.

Here are six tips on how to look after your candles, and ensure they burns safely.

1. Trim the wick for a cleaner burn

Long wicks lead to bigger flames, soot, and wasted wax—none of which we want! Yes, the bigger the flame, the faster your candle will burn! Before lighting, trim your wick to about 1/4 inch. This helps your candle burn cleaner and last longer.

2. The truth behind ‘a full melt pool’

Ever had a candle tunnel, leaving wax stuck to the sides? That’s because you’ve not let your candle develop a full melt pool on its first burn. Wax has a memory and will only melt as far as the previous time it was lit. Let the wax melt evenly across the full diameter of the surface to prevent tunnelling and ensure a smooth, even burn every time.

3. Don’t leave your candle lit for too long

It’s tempting to keep your candle burning for hours, but doing so for more than 3-4 hours at a time can cause overheating and wasted wax. Give your candle a break and let it cool down to extend its life.

4. Keep candles away from draughts

Placing candles near open windows, fans, or air vents can cause a wild, flickering flame, an uneven burn, and even a carbon build up - aka soot. Keep them in a safe, draught-free spot.

5. Store your candle properly to keep it fresh

Heat and sunlight can cause the scent of your candle to fade and can also change the wax texture. Keep their lids on them when not in use, and store your candles in a cool, dry place to keep them smelling amazing for longer.

6. Burn safely, always

It’s common sense we know, but never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it away from anything flammable. A heat-resistant surface, like a coaster, is always a good idea.
