What is a circular economy?

I talk about a circular economy a lot - but what is it?

It's a system designed to eliminate waste and make the most out of resources that are already in circulation. Instead of products being used and then thrown away, the circular economy focuses on reusing, repairing, refurbishing, and recycling materials to keep them in use for as long as possible - something we are very passionate about at EARLEY+DAUGHTERS.

Imagine it like a closed loop — products are designed to be durable and, when they’re no longer needed, their parts or materials are repurposed or recycled into something new. This reduces the need for raw materials, lowers environmental impact, and helps create a more sustainable future.

At EARLEY+DAUGHTERS, our amber jar candles are made from high quality recycled glass that's designed to last beyond the burn time of your candle. We actively encourage our customers to repurpose our vessels when they can, but also have a recycling scheme in place for when they can't. We would like to stress that our glass and aluminium lids are both recyclable (the majority of imported glass is not - but ours is made in England and is 100% infinitely recyclable) but if you can return it to us for repurposing, it stops the glass entering the recycling system altogether which saves money, energy and labour and is even better for the planet.

But it's our vintage vessels that are the star of the circular economy show! Upcycling old pottery extends the life of something that might otherwise be discarded, reducing both waste and the demand for new resources. It’s all about being creative and resourceful, turning what might be considered “waste” into something valuable again.
